Video introduction

Brief overview on the start

We started with the three of us in 2019 to form up a Game Studio: Michael, the owner and director of the company; Ivar, Co-Founder and Creative Director, and myself as Co-Founder and Community Manager. We all shared the same vision on what we wanted to achieve: create games for both a community and ourselves to enjoy. We are gamers ourselves as well, so we really want to up our games in terms of quality.

What makes us special?

Starting something is always difficult, especially if you don’t know what to expect. Making games is no exception. We took months to gather a small team of people who stand by the vision of our company and our first game project.

First we built our company and internal structure. Based on the ‘Daily Media’ concept which Nether Lion Studios is part of. The concept is simple: people first, product second. Give all the time and energy you can spare because we do not have any external investors–all the money comes out of our own pocket. We don’t need an investor yet because we need to show what we can accomplish without this kind of investment first.

Next we made a five-year plan. We know what we want with our game and that we have to pay the bills ourselves. We need to create a game which is fun for us to make and most importantly– to play. At the same time we need to build a community of gamers who want to spent their money to buy the game and support us. Ideally they also give us feedback and/or suggestions so that we can improve this game and future games.

Our team has a lot of knowledge of a lot of different aspects necessary to build up a game studio from scratch. Knowledge of how to set up a company, how to build games, and what is needed to make sure people actually know of the existence of the game once it is finished. Besides knowledge we also have enthusiasm in spades, and a drive to see Nether Lion Studios succeed.

What is our vision for the future?

Our vision for Nether Lion studios is to make it a small and profitable company in the Netherlands in the span of five years. We have a couple of goals we want to achieve in this time:

  • Create a worldwide community
  • Make one or two games on the PC, tablet, and/or console
  • Have a team of 10 to 20 people

Last but not least, what are we working on right now?

We are working on a true survival sandbox game inspired by the movie Cast Away. Under a concept name for legal reasons titled project ‘Wilson Senior’. In the movie Cast Away, Tom Hanks is left behind and his biggest enemy is himself. How do you make your first fire? Find food and water? You make friends with a simple object and call it Wilson. This is how you start in the game and from there on you progress further.

The upcoming days we will share the first batch of videos under the name ‘An Interview with …’. In this series we will conduct a little interview with each of our team members so you can get to know the people behind the company.

Furthermore we will share more of the game development either in written articles here on our blog, or in more videos in our Dev Diaries. Thank you so much for your time. Feel free to ask us any questions if you want to know more or anything is unclear.

For now–have a nice day and speak you soon!
